Entrepreneurship has become an increasingly popular term that can be evidenced in different spheres of the economy and society. More commonly, entrepreneurial behaviours are associated with new start up ventures where risk, ownership and management are combined to exploit new market or technological opportunities. But such activities can also be seen in corporate, social, public, civic, community and small business contexts to reflect organizational efforts to sustain competitive advantage, uniqueness and novelty. This is partly because the twenty-first century is characterized by a fast moving, competitive and global economy. Sustaining a competitive advantage requires that individuals, companies and nations are able to anticipate and stimulate (rather than merely manage) change.
Entrepreneurship is about exploiting ambiguities and contingencies. More importantly, entrepreneurship is about experiencing a tension between ‘what is’ in the present and ‘what should be’ in the future - and then converting that tension into an entrepreneurial problem that can resolve the tension. Such a process demands concepts and knowledge from different disciplines, and the integration of these concepts with the know-how and practical experience of daily business practice.
The programme aims at achieving that integration, optimally balancing theory and know-how. Entrepreneurship is a programme of the Luxembourg Business Academy .
Luxembourg Business Academy
The University and the Chamber of Commerce of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg have initiated a special foundation and partnership to provide intellectually-inspiring and practice-oriented Masters education in specialized niches of management. The broader objective of the collaboration is to help to create talented, inquiring and culturally adaptable professionals.
The first outcome of this collaboration is the international programme of Masters in Entrepreneurship and Innovation which is now in its fifth year. The mission behind the course is to stimulate the creation and development of innovative companies by providing students with an advanced education in the fields of entrepreneurship and the management of technological and organizational change. Our aim is to teach students the mechanics of building a business but also how to evaluate the role of enterprise and entrepreneurship within the economy and society.
The program is organized and executed by the University of Luxembourg. Supported by the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, however, it benefits from a wide network of connections within the business community in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. Using this network, the students are immersed into daily business practice during the second semester of the course through a privileged relationship with a mentor company from the Luxembourg business community. The involvement of international faculty in the form of visiting professors from all over the world also boosts the international academic credentials of the programme.
We believe that these educational assets will enable motivated students to showcase their talent and become intellectually inquiring and culturally adaptable individuals.
